Driving down the road the other day I heard a heart-wrenching report on NPR about a family in Ohio and the impact that current economic conditions have had on them. As the oldest of nine kids and having gone through good times and bad, sometimes really bad, my heart went out to the Nunez family: they could no longer even afford to put meat on the table. My folks somehow always managed to put meat on the table, no matter how bad things were. I really was pretty depressed after the report, even though I realized that the family lived in Ohio — more on that in a bit.
